Today we got the new 10 megapixel digital camera Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10. It’s an entry-level SLR with a price of around $1300. A review of the camera will come in the near future but here is the holy unboxing ceremony. Check it out.

Tsar Nicoulai Caviar has come up with an interesting idea, partnerships with star chefs on specialty flavored caviars. The first creation is Passot Roe, a collaboration with Chef Roland Passot of La Folie. The Passot Roe are trout roes infused with three different flavors, vanilla, kaffir lime and brandy. Each Passot Roe retails at $28 for 2 ounces. It’s seems like a savvy move in a world where concerns about sturgeon caviar supply are creating a rapidly shifting marketplace. Humble trout caviar sounds far more exciting with a star chef and exotic flavors attached to it.

The Maltese Falcon, the amazing clipper yacht created by Tom Perkins has gotten its own coffee table book. The Maltese Falcon: Art of Innovation is a 240-page book full of lush photography and tells the story of the creation of this gorgeous yacht which was a labor of love for Perkins. The 287-foot yacht has three masts which can rotate depending on the wind direction. Just how was the $100 million it took to build this yacht spent? The book goes into the long hard journey from design to launch. The book however, will only run you £55. The book is a limited edition of 5000.

Like yesterday’s estate, today’s home, clear on the other coast of the U.S. comes with a long history. This home in the Historic Hill area of Newport, Rhode Island was built around 1860 and was the home of William Swinburne, a mayor of the city. The home has been recently renovated. The home includes a dining room, formal living room, a newer kitchen done up in stainless appliances and granite counters. The first floor also includes a den and a breakfast room that opens to a porch which overlooks the pool. The bedrooms are on the second and third floors and include a master suite with a fireplaces, sitting room and marble bathroom. The home also comes with a new carriage house that offers two garage spots and guest quarters. Zillow lists this one as having been bought in 2005 for $2,900,000 and their zestimate has it at over $3 million. This one certainly seems like a decent deal at $2,995,000.

The Plaza’s Grand Ballroom is part of the revamp of the entire building, which has already yielded some of New York’s msot lavish private residences. Great Performances and Delaware North Companies have signed a 25-year lease with Elad properties, the owners of The Plaza. The ballroom is being restored to reflect the way it looked in 1929 when the architectural firm of Schultze & Weaver designed it to replace the smaller ballroom of 1907. The ballroom will have two elaborate chandeliers, a stage and balconies on the north and east sides. The room is a neoclassic confection in white and gold with six mural which have been cleaned and conserved. The ballroom opens in December. It is open for events starting in January 2008. Pricing varies depending on the catering options but rental alone for the Grand Ballroom, which seats 500, starts at $75,000.

Is whisky a better investment than the stock market? That’s Michel Kappen’s take on things. He recently launched the World Whisky Index and he says that whisky is a stable investment with an annual return rate of 12 percent. Kappen’s index has 2,853 bottles so far with the highest listed at 650 euros. That number is far below some of the amazing whisky prices we’ve seen over the years. Just a couple of months ago a bottle of Bowmore single malt bottled in 1850 sold for $59,200 at auction. In 2005, a free-spending businessman dropped $58,000 for a bottle of the Dalmore 62. Maybe Kappen is on to something here, the only problem with investing in whisky of course is that you must abstain from sipping the investment.

Now what makes this really interesting is, that as Jossip mentioned, Nello Balan once famously gave Page Six’s Richard Johnson $1,000 as a Christmas gift. Is this umbrella story just a question of Nello needing to get himself and his restaurant in the news? It wouldn’t be the first time Balan sued his way to notoriety . Earlier this year he filed a lawsuit against Bungalow 8 owner Amy Sacco claiming rough treatment from her bouncers and he has also been sparring with an artist over art prices.
